There are often situations wherein we need to reach out to Munich KVR for emergencies. The emergencies could vary from expiry of visa (or about to expire), to extension requirement for tourist visa, and sudden change is residence status (loss of job/benefits) to name a few.
If you need to make an emergency appointment with the Munich KVR (Kreisverwaltungsreferat), it is important to act quickly and follow the necessary steps. The Munich KVR is responsible for a variety of administrative services, including issuing identification documents, processing residency permits, and handling other bureaucratic matters. To make an emergency appointment, you should first visit the official website for Munich and read about the category under which you need emergency assistance, or you can refer to the FAQ section directly.
It is HIGHLY recommended to take prior appointment before visiting the KVR.
In this blog, we will talk more about how to take the emergency appointment at the Munich KVR.
Before booking an emergency appointment, you need to consider whether you are facing an actual emergency or not.
Please consider the following (as per the official website of Munich):
Only proven emergencies are being processed.
Only fictional certificates, tolerations, border crossing certificates or extensions of Schengen visa can be issued.
Other services, such as change of employer or the issuance/ extension of a residence title, can only be processed in writing using our online contact forms or by post and not at the Servicepoint.
Appointments are not issued at the Servicepoint.
It is not possible to hand in documents in person at the Servicepoint. You can send them via our online services, by post or drop the documents in the mailbox at the entrance A of Ruppertstraße 19.
You must book an appointment online. Appointments for emergencies are released on a daily basis and several times a day. If you cannot find a free appointment, try again at a later time. During the afternoon, we already release appointments for the next day.
What constitutes an emergency (as per the official website of Munich):
An emergency is an unpredictable situation in which a document is urgently needed as otherwise damage is imminent. This applies in the following cases:
Imminent loss of job
Imminent loss of benefits (for example unemployment benefit or student loan)
Urgent travel for personal or professional reasons within the next seven days (such as business trip, illness, death)
Necessary extension of the touristic visit due to flight cancellations or incapacity to travel
The examination and decision are ultimately up the Foreigners Office.
Which proofs are required?
As per the official website of Munich, the following documents are required to prove the emergency situation. The document must be either in English or German.
Confirmation of the employer about imminent job loss or necessary business trip
Confirmation of the authority providing the benefit about imminent loss of benefit
Confirmation of travel company about booked trip, hotel, transport
Confirmation of an authority, a hospital or a doctor about urgent personal travel needs
Confirmation of a travel company about flight cancellation, a hospital about hospital admission or medical certificate; Also, it must already be foreseeable when the departure is possible again (for example, end of treatment, replacement flight or other).
Now, we have established that what is an emergency, what kind of documents are required and what we should consider before booking the appoint either by visiting the FAQ section or reading the emergency appointment consideration. We will now proceed and explain how to book the appointment.
Note: We are not talking about Asylum appointments here!

Explanation:
The first link is applicable ONLY for Students, Academics, Researchers, Self-Employed and Highly Qualified Persons (Blue Card and Family) – in short only for students, scientists, blue card & family. E.g., if you came here on Blue Card (D-Type visa issued from your home country for 3/6 months) and is about to expire but you haven’t received your Blue Card Resident Permit and need to travel urgently. There could be more emergencies, and this is just an example, please refer to the FAQ section for more details.
The second is applicable for all other emergencies (except for asylum) e.g., Family or friend came to visit you and their visa is about to expire but they can’t travel due to flight cancellation or suddenly they fell sick and can’t travel. There could be more emergencies, and this is just an example, please refer to the FAQ section for more details.
